Safety Standard Certificates
Ministry of Transportation provides a complete check list that vehicles must past prior to receiving Safety Paper and stickers.
Safeties must be completed by a Licenced Garage who can issue MTO Safety Papers if the vehicle passes.
If your vehicle, DOES NOT pass a Safety; the licenced garage will supply a list of items that need to be repaired
or replaced. You do not have to repair your vehicle at the MVIS where the initial inspection was completed.
However, you must return the vehicle to the station for re-inspection of the repaired items and issuance of the
Safety Standard Certificate. No additional fee will be charged for re-inspection providing the wheel brake assemblies do not have to be inspected a second time.
NOTE: The vehicle must be returned to the MVIS within 10 CALENDAR DAYS with the specified defects
repaired to qualify for re-inspection at no charge.
Once you have your Safety Papers you need to obtain Vehicle Insurance in the Province of Ontario then proceed
to Service Ontario to register your vehicle. If registering in Sioux Lookout the office is located at; 62 Queen St., Sioux Lookout, ON.
Standard Safety Certificate is valid for 36 days (including Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays), day one being the day following the day of the inspection.
